Mrs. Margaret Small Ashton

CAMBRIDGE–Mrs. Margaret Small Ashton, of Cambridge, died Thursday (June 9, 1977) in Mary McClellan Hospital, Cambridge, after a short illness.

Born April 13, 1883 in the Town of Jackson, she was the daughter of Thomas and Belle (Arnott) Oviatt.

Mrs. Ashton was graduated from Cambridge Union School and Oneonta Teachers’ College. She taught a fifth grade class at Greenwich and Cambridge Schools.

Mrs. Ashton had lived in Cambridge for 49 years. She was the widow of Alfred Small, who died in 1931, and Andrew Ashton, who died in 1937.

She was a member of the Cambridge United Presbyterian Church for 76 years and was a member of the Ondawa Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution for more the 50 years. She was the oldest living past regent of the Ondawa Chapter.

Survivors include a son, Donald T. Small of Cambridge; four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and two cousins.

Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Charles A. Ackley Funeral Home, Cambridge. Rev. Robert Parrington, pastor of the Cambridge United Presbyterian Church, will officiate.
